Welcome to a New School Year!

As I begin my 15th year as principal, I'm thrilled to welcome you to Walter R. Sundling Middle School, a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Our commitment to your student's learning, social-emotional well-being, and continuous progress is stronger than ever. At Sundling, we work to prepare our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders to be well-rounded, global citizens.

Our success is built on a simple idea: we are all "Partners in Learning." Creating world-class learners requires dedication from our teachers, staff, parents, community members, and, of course, our students. By working together and communicating effectively, we can ensure every student grows and succeeds during their middle school experience.

Beyond Academics

We believe in a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom. Our curriculum focuses on content, process, and perseverance—giving students the knowledge they need while also teaching them how to apply it and work through challenges.

We also offer an enrichment program with courses in fine arts, practical arts, STEM, and foreign languages (Spanish and Spanish for Native Speakers) to help students explore their interests.

To provide balance, we encourage students to get involved in our wide variety of intramurals and extracurricular activities. With more than a dozen clubs, intramurals, athletics, music, and chorus, there’s something for everyone. Some of our popular clubs include Homework Club, World Language Club, Service Club, and Yearbook.

Our School Community

We foster a positive school atmosphere based on the principles of our PBIS Matrix: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe. Our students are encouraged to show respect for themselves, others, and their community. Our school motto, "Pledge to the Paladin," promotes a strong school culture and helps prepare our students to become self-advocating, self-motivated, lifelong learners.

Parent involvement is a key part of our community, and the PTA provides vital support to our students and staff. Please consider joining and supporting the Sundling PTA to be a part of your child’s middle school education.
