Welcome to the 2026–2027 School Year!

As I gear up for my 16th year as principal at Sundling, I am just as excited today as I was on day one to welcome back our returning families and say hello and begin the integration of our newest Paladins!

Every school year brings fresh energy, but this year carries a special theme that is especially close to my heart: “A Seat for Everyone.”

Middle school is a time of big changes, new friendships, and figuring out where you fit in. At Sundling—a two-time National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence (1996 and 2021)—we want every single student to know that they belong here. Whether in the classroom, on the field, on stage, or at lunch, there is a space, a voice, and a seat for everyone at Sundling.

We can’t do this alone! Creating the best experience for our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders takes all of us working together. Teachers, staff, parents, and community members are true "Partners in Learning." When we keep the lines of communication open and support each other, our kids accomplish amazing things.

Middle school should be (and will be) an adventure! Our classes don't just teach content; we focus on process and perseverance—helping kids learn how to problem-solve and work through tough challenges.

We also want our Paladins to try new things and get involved during their time here:

• Enrichment & Exploratories: Hands-on classes in STEM, Fine Arts, Practical Arts, Spanish, and Spanish for Native Speakers.
• Clubs & Activities: Over a dozen ways to plug in outside of class! From Homework Club and World Language Club to Service Club, Yearbook, music, sports, and intramurals, there is truly something for every interest.

A major focus every year is to build strong connections and relationships with the students and families that we work with. We keep our school culture positive and supportive using our core PBIS values: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe.

Through our "Pledge to the Paladin," we encourage students to advocate for themselves, show kindness to others, and take pride in their school and community.

Our Sundling PTA does incredible work for our kids and staff. I’d love for you to join us and get involved—it’s a wonderful way to stay connected during these fast-moving middle school years.
